When I was in art school in the 90’s I studied the Prehispanic cultures of Mesoamerica. I became fascinated by the art and the pictographs utilized by the Maya and Aztec. I became familiar with their glyphs and pictograms and began to appropriate the ones that I felt most attracted to, transforming them into my own. I have created now my own dictionary inspired by those glyphs and pictograms, becoming an intrinsic part of my painting compositions. The imagery and motifs depicted on my paintings have been transformed influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Cy Twombly, William Turner, Picasso, are some of my main influences. My paintings are inspired by Pre-Hispanic motifs from the past, creating my own and bringing them to life into a contemporary context. story online can make all the difference.
